Personal Computer Purchases

Personal Funds

The Technology Services department does not provide purchasing assistance for computers to be purchased with personal (non-UW) funds. The DoIT Tech Store has sales staff available for consulting. The DoIT Tech Store is open to the public weekdays from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are located at 1210 West Dayton Street, just east of Union South. Parking is limited to several 15-minute meters in a turnaround, between Union South and DoIT, off Dayton Street. Contact Tech Store Sales by calling 608-262-7253 or email sales@doit.wisc.edu.

Departmental Funds

For faculty and staff who are using departmental funds to purchase a computer for use at home, the Director of Technology will consult with you and prepare a recommendation/quote from Dell. You may obtain alternate quotes from other vendors/sources on your own but please check with the law school's financial specialists Josh Cutler (room 5101) and/or Justin Boehm (room 5110) to check state purchasing guidelines. When you have a quote you are satisfied with, you may give the necessary paperwork to Josh or Justin to have a Purchase Order prepared and sent to the selected vendor.

If purchased with state funds, the computer must be delivered to the Law School. If you choose, we will install any supported software and generally prepare your PC for use at your home. You are responsible for transporting the PC to your home and setting it up. Refer to our "Support for Home PCs" document for other support options.
