Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Law School's Web site. We hope your virtual visit will give you a feeling for the stimulating atmosphere, the diverse student body, and the world-class faculty and programs here at the UW Law School.

Top students are drawn to the UW Law School because of our tradition of excellence, our school's setting in the heart of one of the world's leading research universities, and our law-in-action approach to teaching and learning the law -- an approach that differentiates us from other law schools. As a bonus, we are located in Madison, Wisconsin - a beautiful and affordable city strategically located in the middle of a triangle formed by Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee. As the state capital, Madison is home to many courts and state and federal government agencies, all of which provide learning opportunities for our students.

Our students represent a variety of backgrounds, ages, interests, races, nationalities, and life experiences. A typical entering class includes 25% students of color, 45-50 % women, and 40% students from outside Wisconsin. They represent 30 states and more than 100 undergraduate institutions.

The UW Law School's nationally recognized faculty comes from a wide range of backgrounds and offers students strong role models and a variety of experiences. They are leading scholars who are also actively involved in the law. They are interesting lawyers doing interesting things, but first and foremost, they are excellent teachers.

We also are nationally known for our clinics, which give our students the opportunity for hands-on learning. The UW Law School is committed to practical experience as a part of legal education, and, with one of the largest clinical programs in the country, we offer a wide variety of lawyering experiences with real clients and excellent supervision.

When our students are ready to graduate and begin their legal careers, leading law firms, government agencies, businesses and public interest organizations seek to hire them. A broad range of legal employers from many major cities participates in the on-campus interview program, and our students receive assistance from many of our more than 11,000 alumni throughout the country. In any given year, our graduates typically accept jobs in more than 20 different states, from New York to California.

I could continue to list the many strengths of this special place, but instead, I will refer you to the Web pages that catch your interest. We are delighted that you have come to visit us, and we would be happy to hear from you if you would like further information.
