Summer 2013 Law Student Intern with American Bar Association Military Pro Bono Project

The American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel seeks a law student intern for the summer of 2013 to provide legal support for programs focused on service members, veterans, and their families. Projects include work on the ABA’s national Military Pro Bono Project, development of publications, legal and policy research and writing, and coordination with external military and veterans’ groups.

Project start and end date: Summer 2013 (May-August)
Approximate hours of work requested: 40 hours/week
Training: Students will undergo extensive orientation and training on site
Work will be performed: At the ABA Office in Chicago, IL
Compensation: This is an unfunded internship. However, the Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps-funded Summer Corps offers law students a $1,175 education award for providing at least 300 hours of service specifically for military and veterans during the summer of 2013. To learn more about Summer Corps, please look at the Summer Corps page. Applicants are encouraged to apply Summer Corps right now to become part of the 2013 class. Applications are currently being reviewed on a rolling basis through March 18, 2013. Applicants, at their own direction, may also acquire funding from other sources as appropriate.
Desired course or clinic experience: None, previous experience working with veterans is helpful.
