"A main goal of advocacy is to link patients to information, resources, and support. Check out our publications, articles and interviews about the center and patient advocacy generally, link to helpful websites, or utilize our multicultural resources. One of the most helpful things my advocate did was put me in touch with the local TEAMSurvivor. I was resistant to join a support group after my breast cancer diagnosis, but was feeling isolated. Since my advocate knew I loved to bike, she thought an exercise group made up of cancer survivors might do the trick - one triathlon later, boy was she right!"

In collaboration with Madison's Latino Health Council and Freedom, Inc. Hmong Resource Center identified significant health care barriers for Latino and Hmong consumers and providers. Print and radio media in Spanish and Hmong focusing on key messages to help empower consumers within these communities. Building on that project, the Center received a grant from the Evjue Foundation to develop a Hmong-language video featuring Hmong community members talking about advocating for their own health care, which will be available soon.
The Center also consulted with the University of Wisconsin's Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis (CHSRA) to provide culturally appropriate content for a Spanish language web site on breast cancer. Staff also co-authored a chapter in the forthcoming premiere textbook on patient advocacy. The Center is currently joining forces with Sarah Lawrence College to produce the first collection of readings on patient advocacy.
As the Center for Patient Partnerships grows, you can help educate, advocate and innovate to make health systems more consumer-centered. Though we do not charge for our advocacy services, we welcome contributions to the Center. Please join the mission by contributing!
