    Dear Law School Graduates:

I'm sure you are now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I would like to go over just a few details about Commencement on May 15, 2009 at the Monona Terrace.  This memo will be brief.  For more detailed information I refer you to the Graduation Handbook which was put in your hang files earlier this year or to the website at

Pick up Location, Dates, Times for Cap and Gowns:  University Bookstore, 711 State Street;
May 13 and 14:  9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Be sure to open the package to check to be sure you have the following items:
Gown, Cap, Tassel, Stole

Commencement Ceremony at Monona Terrace
Friday, May 15, 2009: 1:00 p.m., Monona Terrace

Report Time and Location:  12:15 p.m. SHARP in Ballroom A

Class Picture and Line up For Processional:  A picture will be taken at exactly 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom A.  If you wish to be in this picture, you must be in Ballroom A on time.  You will all get an electronic copy of the photograph, therefore no family are allowed in Ballroom A to take photos of the class. Due to the short time available, the photographer be not be able to take photos with your cameras. 

After the picture is taken you will be given additional instructions regarding the placement of the tassel, hood etc and then lined up for the processional. 

Processional:  The processional will begin at precisely 1:00 p.m.

Student Speakers:  Junyan, Scott, Charlie:  There are seats for you on the stage, you should step into the hooding line first, and then after you are hooded, please return to your seats on the stage

Hooding portion of the ceremony:  Ushers (name badges with a ribbon that says staff) will stand by the rows to give the ok for your row to go the stage.  When you arrive on stage, you give the completed card (form and pencil will be on your chair) to Ruth Robarts and Mike Hall (who will be sitting on the stage).  You proceed across the stage to be hooded by a faculty member. Two people will be hooded at a time. 

After hooding,  shake hands with the dean while having your photograph taken.  You proceed off the stage, and return to your seat.

Recessional:  At the conclusion of the ceremony there will be a recessional.  The faculty will leave the exhibit hall first and then the graduates will follow.  Ushers will be at the rows to assist with an orderly exit.

Reception:    After the ceremony, all graduates, faculty, and family members are invited to the upper terrace for a light reception.  There will also be a CASH bar for alcohol beverages.

Additional Information
Live Streaming of the Ceremony:  NEW this year we will have live streaming of the ceremony for family and friends who are unable to be at the Monona Terrace.  Additional information on the URL will be sent by separate memo

Parking at Monona Terrace:  Arrive early to park at the Monona Terrace.  For additional information on parking:  http://law.wisc.edu/current/commencement/index.html

Wheel chair seating:  There will be a section of the exhibit hall reserved for your family and people in wheelchairs.  This section is in front to the left of the stage.

Taping of Ceremony:  The ceremony will be taped for a DVD and available in early June.  Please contact Kim Frank, for ordering information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
