The University of Wisconsin Law School conferred 265 degrees on Friday, May 14, 2004, in Commencement ceremonies held at the Kohl Center in Madison. In addition to 214 students who earned the J.D. degree (Juris Doctor), a total of 51 earned advanced degrees (LL.M., Master of Laws, 3; M.L.I., Master in Legal Institutions, 39; and S.J.D., Doctor of Juridical Science, 4).
Preceding the evening ceremony was the Law School's own Graduation Hooding Ceremony, held at Madison's Monona Terrace in the afternoon. Keynote speaker was Cory L. Nettles, Secretary of Commerce for the State of Wisconsin, who is a 1996 graduate of the UW Law School. Faculty speaker, elected by the graduating class, was Professor Jane Schacter.
Greetings from the Board of Regents were presented by UW Regent Gerard Randall.
Student speakers, elected by their classmates, were Michael Hall, Renee Servance, and Notesong Srisopark Thompson. Master of Ceremonies was Ryan Heinemann. All four students were members of the graduating Class of 2004.
