The University of Wisconsin Law School team of Dan Lewerenz and James Schlender, Jr. won the award for Second Place – Best Brief at the National Native American Law Students Association Moot Court Competition on February 27 and 28, 2009.

The national competition, held in Boulder, Colorado,  included 42 teams from 17 schools.

Both Lewerenz and Schlender are second-year law students and members of the UW Law School’s Indigenous Law Students Association (ILSA). Three other teams from ILSA participated in the competition: Dan Cornelius and Lisa Uresti, Cate Kellett and Chandra Harvey, and Faun Moses and Tricia Spatafora.

Schlender and Lewerenz extended thanks to the following individuals who judged practice arguments to help the teams prepare for competition:
