The legal problems affecting New Orleans and the Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are systemic and long-term. From insurance to employment to police abuse, these issues are profound and shocking, but also mirror the legal issues people face across the country. Student Hurricane Network is a national network of law students working on these issues through hands-on volunteer trips to the region. Students have recently returned from the University of Wisconsin SHN's third trip to the region and they will share their experiences and hopes for the future of the Gulf, as well as SHN's role at the law school and in our legal education. The student members of SHN especially want to target professors for this event, as future work with the Student Hurricane Network may be done remotely and involve the possibility that we will need their assistance to be of help in the future. Speakers will include members of the UW SHN. From 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21 in Lubar Commons (Room 7200). Coffee and donuts will be free.
