Feb. 21: Symposium on the Delhi Gang Rape Case of December 2012

On Feb. 21, an expert panel will discuss the events following the heavily publicized rape and death of 'Nirbhaya,' which took place in Delhi, India. Discussion topics will include media coverage of the case, the nature of the protests in Delhi, politicians' responses to the case, and emerging discourse on the death penalty, justice and governance.

The event, beginning at noon in Ingraham Hall, Room 206, is free and open to the public.

Panelists include:

  • Moderator Sylvia Vatuk, professor emerita of anthropology, University of Illinois at Chicago
  • Sana Aiyar, assistant professor of history, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Lalita du Perron, associate director, Center for South Asia, University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Center for South Asia at UW-Madison, and the Global Legal Studies Center and South Asia Legal Studies Working Group, both of the UW Law School, are co-sponsoring the symposium.
