The Global Legal Studies Center brings two noteworthy scholars of international law to the University of Wisconsin Law School in April.

Diego García-Sayán will present "Human Rights in the Americas: Challenges for the Inter-American Court and Commission," April 11 at 4 p.m. in Lubar Commons. A reception will follow the presentation.

García-Sayán has served as judge on the Inter-American Court of Human Rights since 2004, and was elected to a term as the court's president in 2009. He co-founded the Peruvian Center for International Studies, and served as chairperson of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances. He has held a number of positions in the Peruvian government.

Susanne Baer will present "Judging Inequalities: The Jurisprudence of the German Federal Constitutional Court," April 18 at 4 p.m. in Lubar Commons. A reception will also follow this presentation.

Baer, a professor of public law and gender studies at Humboldt University Berlin, was elected a justice of Germany's Federal Constitutional Court in 2011 for a 12-year term. She currently directs the Law and Society Institutes Berlin. Her research areas include socio-cultural legal studies, gender studies, law against discrimination and comparative constitutional law. She is the coauthor of the casebook Comparative Constitutionalism, and of a new German textbook on law and sociology.

Those planning to attend either of these events should email Louis Condon with their institutional affiliation and contact details.
