A model law on the regulation of private military and security
companies operating internationally, which was worked out by UW Law
School students in the Wisconsin International Law Society (WILS),
is the subject of an article published in the Russian journal
International Criminal Law and International Justice (No.
2, 2009).
The students were requested to conduct the research by José Luis
Gómez del Prado, then the Chair of the United Nations Working
Group on the Use of Mercenaries.
Working under WILS Research Project Coordinator Margaret Maffai,
the student researchers who contributed to the project were: Neeraj
Agarwal, Melanie Black, Elizabeth Constable, Pauline Chow, Anuradha
Chudasama, Sophy Chhun, Brian Edstrom, Steven Fioritto, Jennifer
Hassemer, Nicole Kieper, Sarai King, Amy McGann, Jessica Ozalp, and
Anastasia Vener.
The Wisconsin International Law Journal is publishing the
model law in English in summer 2009.
