Three Writing Competitions with June 1st Deadlines


1. Thirteenth Annual LexisNexis James William Moore Federal Practice Award
• “Entrants papers must have been either submitted for publication in a student publication or prepared as course work in connection with a course at law school.”
• The subject for the paper “must be federal civil practice and procedure, including the civil jurisdiction and venue rules of the federal courts.”
• The award winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize, a full set of Moore’s Federal Rules Pamphlets.
• The deadline for submission is June 1, 2012.

2. University of Connecticut School of Law Student Legal Writing Competition
• The competition is open to any student currently enrolled in an American or Canadian law school.
• Submissions must be “original writing on legal issues facing persons affected by homelessness, mental illness, addiction, or substance abuse.”
• The deadline for submission is June 1, 2012.
• The first-place article will receive $750; second-place, $500; and third-place, $250.

3. 2012 American Inns of Court Warren E. Burger Prize
• Submissions must be “on a topic that addresses issues of legal excellence, civility, ethics, and professionalism.
• The deadline for submission is June 1, 2012.
• The author of the winning article will receive $5,000, and the essay will be published in the South Carolina Law Review.
