The Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy is pleased to announce the 2013 Bradley Freedom Prize Essay Competition. Students are required to write an essay answering the following question: “Do the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share of taxes? What amount would be fair, and why?”

First prize is $2,000; second Prize is $1500; and third Prize: $1000.

Deadline for submissions is April 19, 2013.

Contest Rules and Requirements:

1. The essay competition is open only to current University of Wisconsin-
Madison students.

2. Your essay will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Be sure your essay does answer the essay question.

2. Your essay should be approximately 5-7 pages (1,500 - 2,000 words).

3. A cover sheet must include your name, title of essay, your current address, e-mail address and your declared major(s) or department(s). Your name should not be on the essay itself.

4. Your essay must be submitted electronically in the format of Microsoft Word.

5. Be sure to include footnote citations clearly identifying the source for any ideas you borrow from other authors.

6. Your essay must be solely the work of the entrant.

Announcement of winners will be May 10, 2013.
