UW-Law alum Chiann Bao was recently appointed Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) on April 12, 2010. Bao is a graduate of Cornell University and was a Fulbright Scholar in China. She received her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2007 and her Master of Arts and Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the City University of Hong Kong. Bao is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is admitted to the New York Bar. She is fluent in Putonghua (Mandarin) Chinese.
Bao has considerable experience in the field of international arbitration. She has clerked at the International Code Council (ICC) International Court of Arbitration in Paris, France and worked with several major international law firms, most recently DLA Piper LLP in New York where she was a member of the firm's international arbitration group.
"We are absolutely delighted to have found a candidate of Chiann's caliber to take over the post of Secretary-General," said Michael J. Moser, Chairman of the HKIAC. "Her practical experience in international arbitration and case management will be a tremendous benefit to the HKIAC and our users."
