Media Central

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Law School's Podcasts of Events and Speakers

Media Central is the repository for the podcasts of many of the lectures and events that occur each week at the UW Law School. Podcasting is a method of publishing files to the Internet that allows users to selectively download audio and video content, or subscribe to a "feed" through which the subscriber receives specific podcasts automatically. Feeds from Media Central require iTunes or an RSS feed reader; Media Central's streaming video files require Quicktime Player.

2008.01.31Kathryn Hendley: "Law in Russia"Audio

How do Russians respond when a dispute arises? The media would have us believe that few use law to resolve disputes. Instead, common wisdom suggests that most either do nothing or resort to various self-help remedies (including the mafia). Yet court statistics show that litigation is becoming more common in Russia. In an effort to better understand how Russians respond to disputes, Hendley conducted a series of focus groups and follow-up interviews in Moscow and Saratov during the summer of 2007. In this talk, she will present some preliminary reflections on that research.
