The Wisconsin Legislature has tapped four UW Law professors and one of the school's William H. Hastie Fellows to serve on special committees during the 2011-12 legislative session.
Clinical Professor Keith Findley and Hastie Fellow Lahny Silva will serve on the special committee for Record Access of Circuit Court Documents. Findley is Co-Director of the Wisconsin Innocence Project. Silva represented individuals advocating for the expungement of past criminal convictions during her career as an attorney, and her scholarship explores collateral consequences of convictions and access to records.
Clinical Professor Ben Kempinen (UW Law '76) will serve on the special committee for Criminal Justice Funding and Strategies. Kempinen is Director of the Remington Center Prosecution Project, and a former interim Director of the Public Defender Project.
Clinical Associate Professor Marsha Mansfield will serve on the special committee for Spousal Maintenance Awards in Divorce Proceedings. An alumna of the UW Law School, Mansfield is Director of the Economic Justice Institute and the Family Court Assistance Project. She was elected to the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors in 2006, and is a member of the Legal Assistance Committee, and the Family Law and Litigation Sections.
Professor David Schultz will serve on the special committee for Judicial Discipline and Recusal. Another UW Law School alumnus, Schultz is Associate Dean for Continuing Legal Education and Outreach. He has been a member of the Wisconsin Judicial Council since 1989, and chaired the Council from 1991-96.
