New Consumer Rights Manual in Print

Posted: 2004-06-10 10:13:00

'Your Consumer Rights', a brochure written by students of the UW Law School's Consumer Law Litigation Clinic, has just been published in May 2004 in both English and Spanish versions. The brochure's title in Spanish is 'Sus Derechos como Consumidor'.

The brochure is available to the public at no charge. It covers a range of issues, including automobiles, credit and debt, misrepresentation and fraud, health insurance claim denials, and utilities. It is written for a non-lawyer audience, and was funded with grants from the Dane County Bar Association, the Wisconsin Law Foundation, and the Consumer Information and Protection Committee of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

The brochure will be distributed widely through social service organizations, public libraries, consumer protection agencies, and other organizations. There are also plans to make it available on the State Bar of Wisconsin's website.

Other topics covered by the brochure, in addition to those named above, include sales and advertising, mandatory arbitration clauses, phone service, moving companies, dating services and other popular consumer services, mail orders, and prize solicitations.

For more information or to obtain a copy of the brochure, call Brenda Balch at the Consumer Law Litigation Clinic: (608) 263-6283.
