Adams

On February 12, 2007, the Jefferson County district attorney dismissed all charges against Wisconsin Innocence Project client Jarrett Adams.  Last summer the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals granted Adams a writ of habeas corpus and ordered the state to either retry or release him from custody.  The court held that Adams had been deprived of his constitutional right to effective assistance of counsel when his attorney failed to present the testimony of a key witness who would have supported Adams' claim of innocence.  Adams spent nearly seven years in prison.  Read the Seventh Circuit opinion in Adams v. Bertrand.
