Monona Terrace

For More on the Monona Terrace Convention center, please visit Information http://www.mononaterrace.com/.

Graduate Line-up Time and Location Line-up time location will be at 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom A of the Monona Terrace Convention Center

Your family and friends should go straight to the EXHIBIT HALL to be seated for the ceremony.

The Hooding Ceremony
This event is only for the students graduating from the UW Law School and their families and friends. Tickets are not required for this ceremony.

The ceremony will be held in the EXHIBIT HALL.  Speakers will include three students from the graduating class, a member of the faculty selected by the third year class, and a keynote speaker.  After the speeches, each student will be called to the stage to be “hooded” by a faculty or staff member and congratulated by Dean Raymond. A professional photographer will take a photo of each graduate shaking hands with the dean. Students receiving the Doctor of Juridical Science, Master of Laws and LLM-Legal Institutions graduate degrees will be honored at this ceremony.

There will be a section of the EXHIBIT HALL reserved for your family and friends in wheelchairs.  This section is in front and to the left of the stage.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, there will be a recessional.  Graduates and family members are to remain seated until the dean and faculty exit the stage.  The graduates will follow the faculty out of the EXHIBIT HALL and guests will exit at the end.

The Hooding Ceremony will be streamed live and available online on the Law School website for family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony.

The URL for the live feed will be announced well before the ceremony giving you sufficient time to notify your family and friends.

Seating for Graduates and Student Speakers
Graduates will be seated in a designated area of the EXHIBIT HALL.  Student speakers will be seated on stage with the keynote speaker and faculty.  You will be seated following the processional.  When you arrive at your seat, you should complete the name pronunciation and Career Services card (card and pencil will be on your chair).

Hooding Portion of the Ceremony
The three student speakers will be hooded first before their classmates; and then return to their seats on the stage.

Ushers will stand by the rows to guide your row to go the stage.  After hooding, you shake hands with Dean Raymond, where a photographer will take your picture. You then proceed off the stage, and an usher will direct you back to your seat.

How to be Hooded
View this video to learn correct hooding technique.

Photography at the Ceremony and Available DVDs
There will be an area designated for taking photographs during the ceremony.  Family members and friends are encouraged to use this area rather than the aisles to photograph their graduate.  A designated area will also be available after the ceremony for graduates to have photos taken with faculty.

The ceremony will also be taped for a DVD and available in early June.  The cost of the DVD is , checks should be made payable to WLAA.  Please contact Kimberly Frank, kafrank2@wisc.edu or 608-890-0140, to order a DVD.

UW Graduate and Professional Student Commencement Ceremony
5:30 p.m.; May 18, 2012, at the Kohl Center

This ceremony includes all professional schools and all students receiving masters’ and doctoral degrees. (http://www.uwbadgers.com/facilities/kohl-center.html). Law graduates are also encouraged to participate in this University graduation for graduate and professional students.

You do not need tickets for the UW graduation ceremony at the Kohl Center and may bring an unlimited number of guests. The Kohl Center is handicapped-accessible and has over 300 wheel chair and companion seats. However, disabled parking is very, very limited and people with mobility problems are encouraged to come early and will need to be dropped off close to the doors of the Center.

Parking for the Kohl Center

Plan in Advance
Commencement parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that there is a severe shortage of parking close to the Kohl Center where the commencement ceremonies are held. As you make your commencement plans, please allow ample time to locate parking for your vehicle and get to the Kohl Center.  In the spring semester, dormitory move-out will be occurring simultaneously with commencement, which will result in significant traffic congestion on West Dayton Street.

Suggested University Parking Lots
(See interactive campus map for lot locations at http://www.map.wisc.edu/?initObj=0225)

Complimentary Bus Shuttle Service
In order to reduce traffic congestion in the vicinity of the Kohl Center, a complimentary shuttle bus service will be available to transport participants and their guests between lot 17 on the engineering campus (near to which there is ample university parking; see list of parking lots below) and the Kohl Center. The shuttle will operate every 10 to 15 minutes on Friday, May 18 from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. The shuttle will stop at the north side of lot 17, proceed to the Kohl Center, and return to lot 17. Shuttle stops will be designated by signs.

Disabled Parking and Access
In order to access parking reserved for guests with disabilities, you must contact the McBurney Disability Resource Center (phone 608/263-2741; e-mail mcburney@odos.wisc.edu) to obtain a permit; disabled plates and all other disabled permits or cards are not valid for reserved commencement parking. Permits must be reserved by Friday, May 11 and picked up by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. Drop-off locations at the Kohl Center for elderly and disabled guests are on West Dayton Street in front of the Kohl Center or on East Campus Mall (formerly North Murray Street) to the west of the Kohl Center. Both locations are approximately 250 to 300 feet from the facility, and unless inclement weather precludes their use, open-air electric vehicles will be available to transport those individuals for whom walking that distance would be difficult.

Accommodations for Guests
There is a wide selection of hotels within two to six miles of the UW Campus. It is strongly recommended that you make reservations as soon as possible to guarantee rooms, as this will be a VERY busy weekend.
