Course Description

This course provides an introduction to three issues that arise in contract law: what remedies are available for a breach of contract?; how well do contract law principles translate into non-business settings in which promises are made?; and what rules exist for policing the enforceability and fairness of contractual bargains? The course is based upon the famous "Wisconsin Contracts Materials", a casebook edited by UW Law Professors Stewart Macaulay and Bill Whitford. The casebook emphasizes a sociology-of-law approach to the study of contract law.
