Course Description

A tort is roughly defined as a civil wrong, independent of contract: liability for physical and emotional harms inflicted by intentional misconduct or negligence, or without fault, and development of concepts and techniques in analyzing and solving tort problems.

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this course, students will understand common law methodology, and the difference between common law and statutory law approaches.

Students will be familiar with major doctrinal approaches to intentional torts (including assault, battery, trespass), negligence, and common law strict liability.

They will understand the overall approach used for product liability, and will understand how to calculate and apportion damages.
