Non-Discrimination Policy
Any employer utilizing the UW Law School's Office of Career Services to recruit or employ law students or graduates agrees to do so in accordance with the provisions of Title VII of the Federal Civil Rights Act, Wisconsin's Fair Employment Practice Statutes Sections 11.31 et seq., and UW-Madison Faculty document 542, 5 December 1983. These provisions prohibit discrimination on the basis of age, race, creed, color, handicap, marital status, sex, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, arrest record or conviction record. Penalties for violating these regulations and policies may include the denial of University facilities.
United States Military
In its employment practices, the United States military
discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, a basis not
permitted by the laws of Wisconsin, the policies of the University
of Wisconsin, and the bylaws of the Association of American Law
Schools. Representatives of the United States military are
permitted to interview at the University of Wisconsin Law School
because of the provisions of UW-Madison Faculty Document 542, 5
December 1983, and because of the loss of federal funds to the
University that would otherwise be imposed under federal statutes,
commonly known as the Solomon Amendment.
