The hiring plan implemented at the federal level has no direct authority at the state court level (although many state appellate judges know of the plan and support it). Additionally, state court judges have always varied widely in the timing of their hiring. Vermont Law School's Guide to State Judicial Clerkship Procedures provides procedural rules for applying to state court clerkships at all levels.
Accessing The Guide
The Guide can be accessed at http://www.vermontlaw.edu/x1101.xml.
You will need to enter a username and password. Please contact Jane Heymann in Career Services to obtain that information (jheymann@wisc.edu).
Caveat on using the Guide
Vermont Law School typically updates the information only periodically throughout the year. Therefore, you will be best served to contact the person listed in the Guide for the court in which you have interest (typically the Clerk of Court) and ask directly about timing information.
